What is neuromuscular massage?

Our muscles contract and relax by sending and receiving signals to and from the brain and spinal cord. These signals are produced by various receptor organs in our muscles and tendons and carried by peripheral nerves. A neuromuscular therapist has specialized knowledge and training in these “neuromuscular” systems. The neuromuscular therapist uses this knowledge to apply pressure, stretching, and movement to facilitate relaxation of tight or spastic muscles and bring the system back into balance.

During the session I will employ various techniques such as myofascial release, neuromuscular re-education, and targeted stretching. The massage is designed to relieve tension and address trigger points that cause pain, stiffness and decreased range of motion.
